Why this matters
Understand the difference between a LightBurn project and imported/exported artwork so you do not lose editable setup or machine-specific work.
How it works
- A LightBurn project stores far more than a generic vector export, including layer assignments and project-specific settings.
- Import brings supported artwork into the current project; Export creates a file for another format or workflow.
- User Bundles are for LightBurn configuration components, not a replacement for copying your project files.
Practical workflow
- Save important jobs as LightBurn project files before making destructive edits.
- Use Import when adding SVG, DXF, AI or other supported artwork into an existing project.
- Use Export only when another application or process needs a different format.
- Keep project files and configuration backups as separate backup categories.
- Use clear filenames with revision information for production work.
What to watch for
- An exported SVG or DXF should not be treated as a complete backup of your LightBurn project.
