Why this matters
Use tracing for logos and line artwork while controlling threshold and cleanup so the result does not become a forest of unnecessary nodes.
How it works
- Trace Image analyzes bitmap contrast and creates vector paths from detected boundaries.
- Trace quality depends strongly on source resolution, contrast and the chosen tracing controls.
- Traced vectors often need cleanup, simplification or node editing before production.
Practical workflow
- Crop away irrelevant background before tracing.
- Adjust the trace controls until the preview captures required shapes without excessive noise.
- Create the trace and move it aside to compare with the source image.
- Ungroup or edit paths as needed, then remove duplicates and stray geometry.
- Preview the resulting Line or Fill operation before output.
What to watch for
- A trace is not automatically cleaner than the original bitmap.
- Very noisy images can create thousands of nodes and slow downstream operations.
- Keep the original image until you have verified the vector result.
