Print and Cut measures the location, rotation and scale difference between two physical target marks and their matching graphics in the project. It is useful for cutting around a printed design, restarting a halted job, adding a second operation or processing a design in panels.

Prepare registration before production

Create two clear target marks in the project and place them far apart, preferably diagonally across the usable area. Keep both marks attached to the artwork so they cannot move independently. Output or print the targets with the first stage and protect them until registration is complete.

Targets must be physically reachable by the laser pointer/head and unambiguous. Two points too close together make rotational error harder to detect.

Start the wizard

Open Laser Tools → Print and Cut → Start Wizard (or the Print and Cut control available in your toolbar/version). Follow the wizard rather than relying on remembered offsets.

  1. Select the first target graphic in the project.
  2. Move the laser's positioning reference precisely to the matching physical target and set the first target position.
  3. Select the second target graphic.
  4. Move to the matching physical target and set the second target position.
  5. Let LightBurn align the project to the measured targets.

Use the machine manufacturer's safe positioning method. If the visible pointer is offset from the actual beam, calibrate/use that offset as the manufacturer specifies; do not fire the production beam merely to “find” the target.
