Why this matters
Create new vector contours at a controlled distance for borders, cut outlines and fit-related geometry.
How it works
- Offset Shapes creates new geometry inward, outward or in both directions at a specified distance.
- It can work with vector paths, Primary Shapes, Text Objects and grouped selections.
- Corner style and offset distance change the resulting contour and can create self-intersections on complex geometry.
Practical workflow
- Select the objects that need a border or cut outline.
- Choose inward/outward direction based on the actual design goal.
- Start with a modest offset and use the live preview.
- Inspect tight corners and small holes.
- Place the new contour on its own layer when it represents a separate laser operation.
What to watch for
- Large offsets can collapse small details or produce unexpected loops.
- Offset Shapes is a design tool; Kerf Offset is a process compensation concept and should not be confused blindly.
- Always inspect the generated geometry before deleting the original.
