Why a grid is better than guessing
LightBurn's Material Test generator creates a matrix of samples where two parameters change across the rows and columns. The classic test varies Speed and Power, letting you compare many combinations on the same material under the same general conditions.
Open the Material Test
Go to Laser Tools → Material Test. The generator can vary parameters such as Power, Speed, Interval or Passes. Some laser types expose additional parameters.
Choose a sensible range
A test is useful only if its range is realistic. Manufacturer recommendations are the best starting point when available. If your manufacturer suggests a narrow working region, test around that region rather than using extreme values just because the dialog allows them.
Count
Count controls how many sample cells are created. More cells provide finer comparison but require more material and time.
Min and Max
These define the tested range for each selected parameter. LightBurn distributes sample values across the grid.
Test cell size
Larger cells are easier to inspect but consume more material. Small cells are useful for quick screening, but subtle differences can be harder to judge.
