Why this matters
Use the same vector-following mode for light scoring or through-cuts by controlling energy delivery instead of treating them as different tools.
How it works
- Line Mode makes the laser follow the path of vector geometry.
- Fast motion or lower power tends to reduce energy per unit length; slower motion, higher power or additional passes can increase it.
- The appropriate combination depends on material, focus, laser type, air flow and machine capability.
Practical workflow
- Put scoring and cutting operations on separate layers even if both use Line Mode.
- Name layers by purpose, such as Score and Final Cut.
- Use Material Test or scrap pieces to establish energy for each operation.
- Preview the cut order and place through-cuts after engraving/scoring where appropriate.
- Verify focus and Air Assist before a production cut.
What to watch for
- Do not assume a setting that cuts one plywood batch will cut another material or thickness.
- Multiple passes can increase heat accumulation and edge charring.
