Why this matters
How LightBurn discovers supported lasers, why the device profile matters, and what to check before sending your first job.
How it works
- LightBurn stores machine-specific connection and workspace information in a Device profile; the correct profile is the foundation for positioning and output.
- Find My Laser can detect many USB-connected devices, but a device can still require manual setup when automatic discovery is not supported.
- Workspace size, origin orientation and device type must match the real machine; a wrong profile can make a perfectly valid project move to the wrong place.
Practical workflow
- Connect and power the laser before opening the device discovery workflow.
- Run Find My Laser and select the detected controller/device only if it matches the real machine.
- Verify workspace width and height against the manufacturer's specification.
- Verify the origin corner and test jogging at low risk before running a project.
- Save the profile with a meaningful name if you manage more than one laser.
