Why this matters
Understand the Fill controls that change scan direction, travel efficiency and the way engraved coverage is built.
How it works
- Fill Mode engraves the interior of closed vector shapes with parallel scan lines.
- Bidirectional scanning can engrave in both travel directions, reducing non-burning return travel on suitable machines.
- Scan Angle rotates the direction of fill lines and can change appearance on direction-sensitive materials.
- Crosshatch adds another fill direction and therefore more laser passes over the filled area.
Practical workflow
- Start with a simple Fill layer and known-good interval.
- Use Preview to see scan orientation and the amount of travel.
- Compare bidirectional and unidirectional output if alignment or backlash is a concern.
- Change Scan Angle when material texture or design direction makes it useful.
- Treat Crosshatch as an additional processing pass and retest energy.
What to watch for
- Crosshatch can darken or overheat material because the area is processed in more than one direction.
